Healey is a 6 year old male French Bulldog, weighing approx. 12 kilos – living in an adult home in Gloucestershire with a cat.
Healey came into our care 2 years ago due to his owner going abroad to work.
Unfortunately, circumstances have changed with his forever home and they are unable to keep Healey, we think it’s best he remains with his family until the right home can be found and his owners have given us a detailed report below about Healey.
Healey has been with his current owners for 2 years after they originally adopted him from Starfish Rescue, but sadly due to a change in the owner’s work circumstances and family illness, he is looking for a new home.
Healey is a happy and friendly dog who loves human company and is always seeking out for a warm lap to lie on! He is good with people, although he barks when new people approach the house, but once invited in by the owners he soon settles and brings them his toy!
The owners have their 3 year old nephew visit often and Healey is well behaved with him, but he is not used to daily contact with children in the house and would prefer a quieter household.
He has been socialised with other dogs and has spent time at a dog sitter with other dogs with no issues. When out and about he can react and bark towards other dogs, but usually these tend to be larger breed dogs, because of this he would be best as the only dog in the home.
Over 12 months ago his owners rescued a kitten which was slowly introduced to Healey, they are now very good friends. He could potentially live with another cat but only if they too were dog savvy.
Healey walks well on the lead but sometimes pulls when excited, he can be let off and has very good recall when no other dogs are around. He lives for his tennis ball, and will play fetch all day if given the chance! He enjoys both short or long walks with runs around the fields.
Out and about with his family
He travels well in the car, and has been on some long journeys, but settles best on the back seats with a doggy seat belt so he can see you, rather than in the boot area.
Healey would suit someone who is at home lots or retired, as he enjoys human company so much. His owners have done a lot of work with him on routine and he can be left at home for a few hours with no problems and is house trained.
He originally took a while to settle at night time, but now he will get in his bed and sleep the night through. He can be an early riser, but this is because he does not currently sleep in the same room as his owners.
His owners have also worked on him being more familiar with the vet’s practice, as when originally rescued he could be a bit of a ‘drama queen’ when being examined at the vets. He is ok in the waiting room but once in the vet room he can get grumpy, but this has been manageable.
Healey is a fantastic little character and a lovely and loyal companion who needs lots of cuddles and company, but gives it back in return!
Healey is fully vaccinated, chipped, wormed / fleaed and neutered.
